This session will examine the events of the Allen Outlet Mall active shooter incident on May 6th, 2023, from the perspective of a telecommunicator and supervisor on duty that day. It will review the timeline, address critical phone and radio communications, and then delve into the aftermath of the events and how they affected those in the communications center.
Learning Objectives:
- Discuss challenges within Dispatch during active shooter events and learn how to overcome them.
- Develop a working understanding of the effects that a mass-casualty situation has on a telecommunicator's emotions and physiology.
- At the culmination of this session, participants will be able to prepare themselves and their staff for a mass shooting situation
