With social media and PIOs, dispatchers are no longer the invisible voice on the line. The PIOs are trying to produce human interest stories to counter the negative media dispatchers can get. As dispatchers we must suffer thru media distortion when we are blamed for bad events and media fatigue when we receive high praise, for handling those same type of events. We make contact with citizens by going out to assist with community events, education and job fairs.

Learning Objectives:

  1. discuss media distortion and how we can combat that with our employees.
  2. community outreach discuss going out in the community to teach citizens about emergency services.
  3. discuss how to have a social media presence, directives that can be put in place to protect the agency and temployees
