Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement Systems (ERCES), also known as in building Bi-Directional Amplifiers (BDAs) or Public Safety Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS), are being installed in more and more buildings and have the potential to cause interference. This session will highlight national code requirements, local jurisdiction recommendations, and the role radio system managers play in frequency coordination of these systems. The session will address the potential impacts of improper deployment of these systems and interference issues.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Learn what an Emergency Responder Communications Enhancement System is and it's purpose in enhancing radio system coverage into buildings or structures were radio system coverage is lacking.
  2. Learn what the national code requirements are for installing these systems and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) rules for the use of these systems and the radio system manager/FCC license holder responsibilities for the use of these systems.
  3. Learn the impacts these systems can have on radio systems and the interference they can cause if not installed properly or installed where they are not necessary.
